Sunderland v Derby Live Stream to Watch

Sunderland take on Derby in the opening game of the Championship season with both sides eager to get off to a good start in their first game as the latest Sunderland v Derby live stream schedules are announced.

The Black Cats have had a clear out this summer with some big names in Jordan Pickford, Fabio Borini, Vio Mannone, Victor Anichebe all leaving the north east club and this season looks like being one of consolidation.

For Sunderland, Premier League relegation came at a great cost to the club, with David Moyes leaving the club in the summer as well as top goalscorer Jermaine Defoe, who has joined Bournemouth.

Its a case of rebuilding this year for the Black Cats, although they should still have a decent budget to strengthen during the weeks leading up to the Championship opener. Simon Grayson has been brought in and the former Leeds and Preston man has plenty of experience of the lower leagues.

His arrival may be just what Sunderland need at the moment, and he’s sure to rise to the challenge. It remains to be seen however if he has the players with the mindset and fight for a long season ahead.

sunderland v derby live stream

Similarly, Derby have promised plenty during recent seasons but the side has consistently come up short,  having shown plenty of potential for at least a playoff place during large parts of last season. Steve McLaren was brought in for the second time but the ex Middlesbrough and England boss was unable to stop the rot at the club.

Gary Rowett has been brought in and the former Birmingham man has plenty of Championship pedigree to push the club further this year but there have been plenty of departures from Pride Park during the summer.

Will Hughes has left the club for Watford in a £5m deal, while defender Cyrus Christie joined another Championship club Middlesbrough – Tom Ince has also departed, joining newly promoted Huddersfield in a three year deal.

Both sides will be looking to get their season’s off to the vital win, however we feel Sunderland look plenty of value to take all three points at 6/5.

It should be an intriguing tie, with both sides desperate not to be on the losing end.

Warne calls for Pietersen dispute to be resolved

Australian legend Shane Warne has stated that England and Kevin Pietersen need to resolve their differences soon to get the batsman playing international cricket again.

Warne believes that Pietersen will regret his actions and will want to do one thing now – play cricket for England as soon as possible.

The 32-year-old of course missed the third Test match defeat against South Africa and has not been included in the One Day International squad against the Proteas or the World Twenty20 squad.

This was due to Pietersen failing to deny that he sent a number of text messages to opposition teammates criticising captain Andrew Strauss.

But now, Warne says that the issue needs to be sorted as the Three Lions will miss him a lot: “Kevin will be one of the first people to admit that he’s acted in a way that’s been a bit silly and stupid.” said the Aussie.

“Both sides are at fault – the bottom line is Kevin Pietersen is not playing international cricket, which is a tragedy.” He added.

The Englishman’s future in his national side has now come under a great deal of doubt and it is possible that he may not play for his country for a long time, if ever.

There is no doubt that the batsman is a match winner and one of the most gifted players to have ever played for England.

Warne now believes that it is time for both Strauss and Pietersen to settle their differences – even if it was not in the most conventional method.

He said: “Strauss and Pietersen could have gone down the pub and had a beer. If they’d punched the absolute whatever out of each other to sort it out, so be it.”

England get their One Day International series against South Africa on Friday in Cardiff. For different reasons, neither of these players will be involved though as the England Test captain does not play in this format of the game.

Mourinho keen to work in England again

Jose Mourinho has hinted that he one day wants to work in the Premier League again if a club has a massive desire to have him as their manager.

Mourinho of course enjoyed a fantastic spell in England with Chelsea, helping them to back-to-back league titles before leaving in 2007.

He then went on to manager Inter Milan, where in 2010 he won the Champions League, Serie A and the Italian cup.

Now, the Portuguese boss is at the helm of Real Madrid and delivered the La Liga title to the Bernabeu last season.

He is regarded as one of the best managers around at the moment and has hinted that he would love to take charge of an English club again in the future.

Mourinho said: “I will go where people really want me and, when that moment arrives, they show me they really want me. But I have to repeat always this: I am at Real Madrid. I like very much to be [there].

“I want one day to be back in English football, yes. I always said that.”

It is likely that he would want to deliver Champions League success to the Bernabeu before moving on. Should he do that, then he would have won Europe’s elite club competition with three different teams.

Mourinho would attract the attention of plenty of Premier League clubs and English football would love to see him in the Premier League again.

The former Porto boss was loved by the media and fascinated a lot of people.

After a 1-1 draw on the opening day of the La Liga season with Real though, his attention is likely to turn to winning games in the Spanish top flight and retaining their crown as champions.

As mentioned, he will also be targeting Champions League success and then he may consider his options.

Di Matteo delighted with Hazard

Chelsea manager Roberto Di Matteo has admitted that he was extremely happy with Eden Hazard’s performance at Wigan Athletic.

The Belgian was at his creative best in the 2-0 win, making a significant impression during his Premier League debut.

As well as setting up Branislav Ivanovic’s opening goal, Hazard won a penalty for Chelsea’s second, all within the space of the first ten minutes.

Speaking about his new midfielder, Di Matteo said: “Hazard was outstanding. He showed all his qualities and it was a pleasure to watch him.”

“He was a big threat and difficult to mark. He combined well with his team-mates, exactly what we were looking for.”

“He’s got great technical ability. He’s got a burst of pace as well, he can play with his back to goal and he’s got a lot that he can bring to our team.”

Overall, the Chelsea boss was extremely happy with his new signing and you can see why. If he can continue to have this impact on proceedings, he will be worth every penny of the £32m paid for him.

Hazard will now hope to go from strength to strength as the weeks go by. He has shown everyone what he is capable of and now the expectation is even greater than before.

The 21-year-old will make his Stamford Bridge debut on Wednesday evening against Reading where the home fans are likely to give him a cracking reception.

In other Chelsea news, they are still being linked with Wigan midfielder Victor Moses, who played against the Blues this weekend.

This speculation has been a cause of frustration Wigan boss Roberto Martinez who said: “I don’t understand why we put our players in this situation.”

“The transfer window is a fantastic part of our game, but it should close before the official games start.”

“I think it’s disrespectful to the fans and very unfair on the human part of the footballers.”

Chelsea have ten days or so to try and complete a move for Moses, who could be lining up alongside Eden Hazard by September.

AVB speaks out on transfer targets

Tottenham manager Andre Villas-Boas has admitted that it has been very difficult for him to secure transfer targets this summer.

Despite Jermaine Defoe being the only out and out striker at the club, Spurs have failed to land a striker as yet with Villas-Boas playing down the link to Joao Moutinho.

It was thought that Emmanuel Adebayor was going to complete his transfer following a successful loan spell last season, but this has also failed to happen.

Referring to the potential signing of Moutinho to begin with, he said: “It will be very difficult to sign him.

“I have experience of Porto and it is a club that sells good products but they are expensive.

“It has been like that with numerous amounts of players and that is why it is very difficult.”

This seemed to be the press conference for ruling out potential targets, as Yann M’Vila, another name linked with White Hart Lane, appears unlikely to join.

Turning his attention to this one, Villas-Boas said: “He is an interesting player, but I don’t think he will join Tottenham. The player is a player of defensive characteristics.”

“We had initial interest in M’Vila but we have moved on from that one and are now looking for a more creative player.”

As mentioned though, it is Tottenham’s lack of strikers that is the biggest concern. They don’t want the transfer window to slam shut with Defoe as the sole striker option.

At the same time, they don’t want to panic and sign someone who isn’t good enough, so Villas-Boas is remaining calm about the situation.

Villas-Boas continued: “There is no news. Everyone knows the chairman likes to keep things on a reasonable level in terms of what we spend. He has been very sensitive on that.”

This was in particular reference to Adebayor who Tottenham still want to sign. It appears to be about the Manchester City striker demanding too much in terms of a weekly wage.

However, it was rumored yesterday that City would be willing to pay off the rest of the striker’s contract in order to get him off the books.

With the season underway this weekend, Tottenham may have to consider other options – just in case.

Carrick on ‘huge boost’ of Van Persie signing

Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick has spoken out about the club signing Robin Van Persie.

A fee between United and Arsenal was agreed last night – one that could rise to £24m – and Carrick admits it is a boost to everyone at Old Trafford.

With Van Persie likely to form a deadly partnership with Wayne Rooney, Premier League defences will certainly be worried.

Danny Welbeck and Javier Hernandez make up a group of strikers that Carrick believes could bring United plenty of success.

Speaking after representing England against Italy, the 31-year-old said: “If it goes through then it’s great news. We welcome him, he had a terrific season last year. He’ll just strengthen our squad even more.”

“The manager has gone on record as saying that the team in ’99, because of the four forwards they had, was one of the most exciting and one of his happiest times. So hopefully we can repeat something like that.”

“It’s a huge boost. He’s a terrific world class player and it’s great to bring in players of that ability and give everyone a boost.”

Van Persie scored 44 goals in all competitions last year and if he can replicate this for Manchester United, it will be money well spent by Sir Alex Ferguson.

What the Red Devils need to hope for is that he passes his medical without a problem and manages to have an injury free season.

Should be manage to do this, United should be challenging for major honours once again, both domestically and in Europe.

Another man having a say on Van Persie making the move to Manchester is Harry Redknapp.

The former Tottenham boss believes it is a tremendous signing for United, one that could make the difference when it comes to what should be a very close title race.

He said: “I could see Manchester United winning the league next year, now they’ve got Van Persie.”

“If he performs like he did last year then him and Rooney will just be an incredible partnership.”

“He’s a special player and he’s a fantastic signing for Manchester United.”

Van Persie has now arrived back in London after international duty and it is thought he will arrive for his medical at Manchester United later today.

Lewandowski looks like staying put

Borussia Dortmund striker Robert Lewandowski has insisted that he is focused on playing for the Bundesliga Champions and has no intention to leave at the moment.

After a cracking season for Dortmund last time out where he scored 22 goals in the German top flight and then impressed for Poland at Euro 2012, he became one of the most highly-rated young strikers around.

Attention has come from Manchester United, Bayern Munich and Chelsea but Lewandowski seems to want to see out the remainder of his current deal at the club.

He said: “The rumours about me and other teams are not of any interest to me. I have two years on my deal at Borussia Dortmund and I am still a player at this club.

“We have a competitive match this coming weekend and that’s all that matters to me. I am totally focused on the new season and not what could happen in the future.”

Dortmund will be looking to emulate their success of their last campaign where they won the domestic league and cup double.

As well as that, they will be looking to also make a challenge in the Champions League and reach the latter stages of the competition to show what a quality side they are.

Manager Jurgen Klopp has already lost Shinji Kagawa to Manchester United this summer so is sure to fight tooth and nail to keep another one of his prized assets in his squad.

He has hit out at the 23-year-olds agents though, stating that they have been looking for a move instead of the player himself.

Klopp said: “Robert is an exceptional player. He will always be in my squads. Unfortunately his agents will not, there is no doubt about that.”

Dortmund get their Bundesliga campaign underway on Saturday 25th August with a home tie against Werder Bremen.

Kallis says England will miss KP

South African all-rounder Jacques Kallis believes that Kevin Pietersen will be missed by England in the upcoming Test match at Lords.

England must of course win this encounter if they are to keep their number one in the world status, any other result and it is the South Africans that would take the accolade.

Pietersen has been left out of the squad despite being man of the match in the last match at Headingly. This is due to him refusing to dismiss reports that he had sent text messages to members of the South Africa squad criticising his teammates.

Jonny Bairstow is the man who will replace Pietersen and it is a second chance for his to prove himself at Test level. The Yorkshire player scored a century for the England Lions last week so has certainly found some form.

However, Kallis believes that the Three Lions will miss one of their star men, he said: “He’s a world-class player and he’s proven that over many years and put in big performances for England so I’m sure he’s going to be missed, but England’s got some good players as well

“I’m sure they’ll sort it out. He’s too good a player to stay out of the international scene. I’ve no doubts they’ll come to an agreement and something will be sorted out”

After 88 Test’s for the world number one side, Pietersen is certainly full of experience and is a veteran in this format of the game.

The controversy looming over him though was too much for the selectors and they feel as though he needed to be left out of the squad.

We shall soon see if this decision was the right one. The main thing for England is that they win the Test match and this is certainly not the ideal preparation.

The action gets underway from Lords on Thursday.

Llorente wants to leave Bilbao

Athletic Bilbao president Josu Urrutia has admitted that star striker Fernando Llorente wants to leave the club.

The Spaniard’s contract runs out next summer and he has not agreed sign a new deal with the Basque Country side.

Llorente had a superb season last time out, scoring 28 goals across all competitions. This form helped Bilbao to the Europa and Copa Del Rey final but now he is in search of new club.

His performances also earned him a spot in Spain’s European Championship winning squad.

It is being suggested that the 27-year-old wants a move to play Champions League football  and win titles as he is in the peak of his career at the moment, so wants to play at the highest level.

Urrutia said: “He told us that after the European Championships he would let us know and ten days ago I received a call and his agents told me that there was no financial reason for him to continue (with Athletic), but what was even more important for him was to have the guarantee of challenging for championships and success.

“I let him know how disappointed I was but he told me the decision was final.”

Llorente has a €36million release clause in his contract and Bilbao are not prepared to sell for anything less than this.

Juventus have apparently opened talks with the striker over a possible €16 million move but this comes way short of the La Liga side’s valuation.

However, Bilbao will know that their leading goal scorer from last season could leave for nothing next year, something they would surely not want to happen so they may have to lower their asking price.

This statement from the club is likely to grab the attention of plenty of clubs around Europe though as Llorente a very highly-rated front man.
