Green Bay Packers v New Orleans Saints Odds
The NFL season opens with a big match-up between the Green Bay Packers and the New Orleans Saints with a top quality match expected.
At present the bookmakers are siding heavily with Green Bay and have them priced at 1/2 with New Orleans best priced at odds of 15/8.
This suggests that Green Bay should win the match comfortably but the feeling is that the game won’t be quite as straight forward as that.
The Packers have a mean defence but have some questions to answer with regard to how they have replaced the big names that left during the off-season. Amongst those that have been lost are Cullen Jenkins, Nick Barnett and Brandon Chillar but players coming in have included Clay Matthews, who finished second in the defensive player of the year voting last season.
The Saints will be taking on the Packers defence with a solid offensive line. They have added three quality attackers in centre Olin Kreutz and running backs Darren Sproles and Mark Ingram. With Drew Brees offering top-quality as quarter-back there should be plenty of point scoring potential on show.
On the other hand, when the Packers have the ball the Saints will have their hands full. The offensive line will be led by Aaron Rodgers, who has proved himself as one of the very best quarterbacks in the league with some great performances last year.
Green Bay already has a number of solid receivers but added to their roster with a Randall Cobb and also has Jermichael Finley back from injury. Meanwhile, the Saints appear to have some problems with their defensive team and their three pre-season games have seen them give up 20, 27 and 32 points respectively.
Overall it appears that it will be a close fought game and the expectation is that Green Bay should come home winners.
