Man Utd Champions League Odds
Manchester United will fancy their chances of securing another away win in the Champions League as they travel away to Romanian Champions Otelul Galati.
United have not had the perfect start to the Champions League this season. They can be accused of being a little complacent which is the reason they only managed a draw at home against Basel. They will be boosted however, by the return of Serbian Nemanja Vidic at the centre of defence, which is certain to put a smile on Red Devils fans.
A win here is important to ease the pressure heading into the final rounds. United are odds on at 2/9 with 188bet.
Galati go into this game possibly viewing it as the biggest match in the club’s brief history, but after defeats to Basel and Benfica already they may just be looking to keep the score respectable. Whereas United’s stars earn £200,000 a week and play in front of 65000 fans, Otelul Galati are on completely different level, with their top players earning only around €50,000 (£43,000) a year.
This serves only to put the game into context the gulf between these two clubs. The Romanians have nothing to lose and may as well try to get at United and attack because they will lose the match heavily if they don’t. Galati are 14s with most of the bookies on the market to win.
United are capable of a big win in a game like this despite the difficulty of playing away from home against a relatively unknown club. United can press hard all over the pitch when they don’t have the ball and their players in wide areas will be dangerous. The loss of Rio Ferndinand is a blow with his experience but its difficult not to see past a straight forward United win, and after the careless draw at home to Basel in their last game, Sir Alex’s side will see this as a must win game.
A 3-1 United win is priced at 12/1 with Paddy Power.
Wayne Rooney and Ashley Young are both good first goalscoring chances in this match. Rooney will be looking to shake off the recent blip with his England career and Young has been an instant success at the club since he joined in the summer from Aston Villa.
Rooney is predictably a little short at 11/4 however, while the value may be on Ashley Young, who at 6/1 with Paddy Power does offer some value.
The action kicks off at 19:45 GMT
