Thierry Henry has revealed he would like to activate a clause in his loan deal with Arsenal contract that would allow him to stay with the club for an extra ten days in order to play games against Tottenham and AC Milan.
Henry enjoyed a fairy tale return to the Gunners on Monday after coming on from the bench to score the only goal in the 1-0 F.A Cup 3rd round win over Leeds.
The New York Red Bulls striker only just completed his two month loan move back to the Emirates in time to take part in the game against Leeds, and now says he has his sights set on playing in two of Arsenal’s biggest games remaining this season.
“It would be a dream to be part of a team playing against Tottenham. It all depends on what the boss decides on how long I am going to stay.” Henry told the Sun.
“Don’t forget I am very much a New York player and being captain I have some duties to respect.
“I will be definitely be at Arsenal for the home game against Manchester United and I would also love to be involved in the Champions League game against AC Milan.
“But I don’t know if I’ll still be here for the Tottenham game because I also have to go back and prepare in New York.” The Frenchman added.
Henry’s loan deal is set to expire on the 16th of February, one day after the Gunners Champions League last 16 tie against AC Milan, but ten days before the north London Derby.
Arsenal’s attention now switches back to the Premier League after their F.A Cup exploits and a tricky away game against Swansea.
Arsene Wenger’s side sit just one point behind Chelsea, who occupy the crucial final Champions League place, and Henry says a top four finish is a must for Arsenal this year.
“There’s going to be a hell of a competition this year to be in them,” Henry commented.
“But I do think this team does have what it takes to finish in the top four, particularly if you think about the way the team has come back from the beginning of the season. I know that people want more, and I can assure you that the players want more.
“[Targeting a place in the top four is] not what you want to see as an Arsenal fan and, trust me, as an Arsenal player also. But the team is slowly getting into form. The season is still long, anything can happen.”
The 34-year-old remains Arsenal’s leading goalscorer of all time having scored 227 goals in 370 appearances in a red shirt, and is in contention for a starting spot against the Swans this weekend, although Wenger has already revealed Robin Van Persie will start meaning a place on the bench is more likely for the former Barcelona forward.
