Liverpool ready to make Allen bid

Liverpool are apparently set to trigger a £15 million release clause in Swansea midfielder Joe Allen’s contract.

It seems as though the Welshman is new manager at Anfield Brendan Rodger’s biggest transfer target this summer and he is not afraid to splash the cash on bringing him to Merseyside.

Some Liverpool fans may be concerned by this price tag as Kenny Dalglish spent big money on Stewart Downing and Jordan Henderson last summer, but both struggled to impress.

That said though, it would seem as though Allen is a fantastic talent after not only impressing for Swansea in the Premier League, but also putting in good performances for Team GB at the Olympic Games this summer.

The Northern Irish boss is an admirer of the midfielder, he said: “He is a very talented player, which everyone knows.”

Swansea manager Michael Laudrup is keeping fairly quiet on the situation at the moment though: “Joe Allen showed up today at the training ground, he did not train but I had a small chat with him, but we did not touch the subject right now.” he said in regards to Allen’s future.

The Welsh side are sure to do all they can to keep one of their star men at the Liberty Stadium as they face a very tough second season in the English top flight with a lot of quality in the league.

However, if the Reds did come in with a big offer it may be hard to turn down. If a deal is done, then the Swans will want it done soon so they have a chance to bring new faces in before the transfer window closes at the end of the month.

Rodgers will hope that the capture of Allen could see his side challenge for a place in the top four of the Premier League.
