Rooney would welcome Van Persie arrival

Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney has revealed that he would love Robin Van Persie to sign for the club this summer.

In one of the most discussed transfer sagas of the last few months, Van Persie has been linked with Manchester United, amongst other clubs.

This is after the Dutchman made it clear that he would not be signing a new contract at Arsenal and was ready to leave the club.

As mentioned, Manchester United are one of the few clubs who have admitted their interest and Rooney is very keen for the deal to happen.

The England striker said: “Of course he’s a player that I admire.  He’s a fantastic player. He’s been amazing for Arsenal over many years.”

“Last season was probably his best season of all. He scored a lot of goals.”

The prospect of Rooney and Van Persie lining up together is of course an exciting one. After all, they were the top two goalscorers in the Premier League last season.

Referring to whether this partnership would work, Rooney continued: “I’d like to think so – but you’d have to ask the manager about that.”

“There’s a lot of forwards here already with myself, Welbeck, Chicharito and Berbatov, who’s still here.”

“So there’s a lot of forwards fighting for a place.”

This may well be the case, but it seems clear that Rooney would love Van Persie to become a Manchester United player.

With the Premier League title to win and other major honours to challenge for, the more world class players, the better.

So what is the latest with the move actually happening? Well Sir Alex Ferguson admitted that Arsenal were stalling and appeared reluctant to sell their star man to Old Trafford.

However, there are other rumours suggesting that he could join United this evening, so it really is all up in the air.

One man keeping a close eye on proceedings, is Wayne Rooney.
