AC Milan faces desperate Siena in an interesting 20th round match in Serie A. Will Leonardo’s side continue with the pressure on rivals Inter or can the Tuscany side produce another good performance at the San Siro and perhaps escape with something this time around?

The Milanistas will look to continue their good run of results and will know that anything but a win on Sunday will be disappointment ahead of the big Milan derby next weekend. The team looks as it is high on confidence after a great performance in Turin and humiliating Juventus 0-3.

Facing Siena before the derby seems like picture perfect for them and they have to like their chances to keep up the pressure on Inter.

The home team started the New Year in great fashion, and after beating Genoa 5-2 and Juventus 0-3 they beat Novara in the cup game on Tuesday. Though not producing an unforgettable match, AC Milan scored a late goal thanks to Flamini and went through to the quarter finals. These cup matches can be tricky at times mainly because of the rotations in the teams but Milan was up to the task and got away with a win.

Milan has won 6 out of its 9 home matches so far, with losses to Inter Milan in round 2 and Palermo in that last match of 2009. In-between those losses Milan has played some good football at the San Siro and their fans are starting to like their season after a pretty bad start and requests for dismissal for Leonardo.

The team is through to the last 16 in the Champions League and has established itself as the only rival for Inter Milan this season. Most of us thought that Juventus will be the side to cause Inter problems, but on the back of resurrected Ronaldinho, a great Pato, good performances from players like Pirlo, Ambrosini, Borrielo and now the return of Beckham, Milan looks like the team to push Inter right to the end.

Siena has had a pretty bad campaign so far. They are taking the last spot of the table with only 12 point, though only 4 points below the safe zone. The appointment of coach Malezani has not changed the results of the team a great deal, though the display has improved somewhat. The team still seems pretty low on confidence and losses like the one last weekend will certainly not bring the confidence up.

Their performance last weekend against Inter was incredible at the San Siro, but the way they lost the match, being 2-3 up late in the match will stick for some time. Malezani’s side deserved at least a point in that match, but Mourinho’s side on the back of Sneijder and Samuel scored 2 very late goals and won that match. Now Siena is back at the crime scene only 8 days later, and it will be interesting to see how they will react.

Siena has had mainly troubles with defense, though their offense is far from o.k as well. They have conceded a total of 37 goals so far, by far the most in Serie A. Though Malezani has improved somewhat the offense, he is yet to make this team stronger at the back. Adding to this the abysmal road form that Siena has, with only 1 win in 9 matches away from Tuscany makes me think AC Milan should dismantle the guests easier than their city rivals.

Anything except an easy AC Milan win would be a surprise here as the hosts are going after rivals Inter in a quest for this year’s Scudetto.
