Milan is continuing its hot-cold campaign and is currently on the hot side. Three consecutive wins for the Rossonerri and three consecutive draws for their city rivals Inter brought them to respectable and reachable -4 at the top. Especially noticeable are two straight road wins, both at tough grounds, in Bari and Florence.
Milan beat Fiorentina in the dying moments as Pato brought them very important 3 points.
Though being 1-0 down Milan showed determination and turned the match around with two late goals. This win put Milan in front of Roma and increased their self-confidence and optimism that they can challenge Inter for the Scudetto.
However Milan fans know that they should not get carried away having in mind the incredible inconsistency of their team this season. At times they look like a pretty good team, creating chances, playing good defense, but in some occasions they look lost and helpless.
Ronaldinho’s return to great form has surely helped, but so have the returns from injuries of Borrielo and Pato which has made Milan look more dangerous in the past few matches.
Atalanta is having a quite disappointing campaign. The team looks stuck in the relegation zone, in the penultimate place, 3 points from the safe zone.
The season started very bad for the Bergamo outfit and they are yet to show some improvement. Not even some coaching changes have helped Atalanta get out from the bottom 3 and the future really does not look very bright.
The team is finding it harder and harder to be dangerous in attack as in past weeks they were unable to score even against mediocre teams like Chievo and Catania. In fact, the team has scored only 1 goal in its last 5 matches and one surely has to ask himself what are the chances they score at San Siro, against the second best defense in Serie A? Not very big I would say.
Though Milan is occasionally a laughing stock for their defensive players, they have managed to keep their defense reasonably tight and that has been one of the biggest surprises about the Rossonerri.
Atalanta looks lost at the moment and their fight for survival has gotten tougher in past weeks with the improvement in form of competitors Catania, Livorno and Lazio. The team from Bergamo will need to turn the corner very soon if it is to avoid relegation and Serie B football next season.
The two teams are going in different directions and where Milan has boosted its confidence with two important road wins, Atalanta is finding it harder and harder to earn points.
The difference in form combined with the difference in quality should make this match one-sided. With Ronaldinho and Pato Milan will always have a lot of options in attack and I expect quite a show from the Brazilians.
