Udinese welcomes Inter in its bid to record a third consecutive home win and get farther away from the relegation zone. The team snatched a key win in midweek against Cagliari at the Friuli and can now breathe a bit freely as it increased the difference with 18th placed Livorno to 4 points. However Coach De Biassi will know that there is no place for relaxing, especially as he knows that he will meet a very motivated Inter team on Sunday.
As mentioned the team is performing rather well at the Friuli and if it wasn’t for their woeful road record they would have been much higher in the standings. Where Udinese has recorded solid 7 wins at the Friuli, they are amazingly yet to win outside Udinese as they have only managed 4 draws and suffered 9 losses.
Though generally a high-placed team in Serie A, Udinese is having a rather disappointing campaign which went bad from the start. They have lost many matches by a single goal and in most of them they perhaps deserved to earn some points. Additionally they have had some injury problems throughout the first part of the season and these are the main reasons behind their poor placement on the table.
Inter on the other hand is hoping a Champions league win over Chelsea can help them get back to winning ways in Italy. Though still sitting at the top of the table, the 3 consecutive draws for the Nerazzurri have decreased their advantage to only 4 point of AC Milan and 5 of Roma. And whereas most of football Italy agrees that Inter is the best team in Serie A and should go on and win the title, Jose Mourinho’s lads need to be careful and start recording some wins.
Where Roma has a tough match in Naples this weekend, AC Milan plays a rather easy match against Atalanta at San Siro and they will surely cheer for Udinese to cause an upset at the Friuli. Things are going from bad to worse for Inter in past few weeks.
Not only that they couldn’t win in their last 3 matches but they will have a lot of suspended players for this encounter. Because of their red cards last weekend Cordoba and Samuel are out, but also Cambiaso and Muntari will be unavailable. Even coach Mourinho was suspended for 3 matches because of his during and after the match complains for the refereeing.
Though Inter will have problems fielding their best 11, they are still the best team in Italy and Mourinho can still play Lucio in midfield and put Zanetti wherever he’ll be needed. Furthermore Stankovic recently came back from injury and players like Balotelli and Pandev should be fresh as they did not play a lot in that Chelsea match.
Even with Udinese’s improvement in form, their good performances at the Friuli and Inter’s suspension problems I like Inter to get back to winning ways and have a statement match in Udine. Especially given the odds, I believe it’s worthwhile to put some money on Inter.
