Chelsea defender Ashley Cole has criticised the media for the negative stories surrounding his contract talks with the club.
Rumours this week had suggested that Cole’s discussions with Chelsea had stalled and that a new deal for the defender wasn’t certain.
This has since led to speculation that other top European clubs – including PSG and Manchester United – could make a move for his signature.
However, the Champions League winner – who has been at Chelsea since 2006 – has played down such talk and insists that discussions over a new contract have only just begun.
He said: “Contract talks have not stalled just started, and 200k are you for real, I’d never ask for that.”
“Like I said before don’t listen or always believe what media say they aint got a clue.”
Cole is certainly a player that Chelsea will want to keep hold of for the long-term. At 31-years-old, he is at the peak of his powers and many believe him to be the best left back in the world.
If Chelsea manager Roberto Di Matteo is to replicate the success of last season and win major trophies, there is no doubt that Chelsea need Cole in their ranks.
Hopefully, for the sake of the player and the club, Cole will agree a new deal before the season begins on the 18th August.
Otherwise, there will be more and more unwanted speculation.
In other Chelsea news, it is being mentioned once again that they are closing in on Wigan winger Victor Moses.
Di Matteo has been pursuing the youngster all summer and according to some, he may now have got his man.
The Blues have already had three bids for Moses rejected, but with Wigan eyeing up Everton’s Victor Anichebe as a replacement, things could begin to move again.
The player certainly wants the move to happen, so perhaps he could line up alongside Ashley Cole at Stamford Bridge next season.
